5 Tips for a Productive Morning Routine!

Mornings are my FAVOURITE! In the past few years, I have really become a morning person. Mind you, that doesn’t mean I don’t have my days but I really enjoy being an early riser.

Whether you work in a 9-5 or run a business, mornings can be so crucial to your well being. Do you ever get those days when you wake up and have to rush? You then feel as if your entire day has been hit on fast forward.

I hate feeling like that and I always try to make a routine of my mornings, wake up with a positive and clear headspace to make the most out of my day! So here are 5 tips I use to feel better and slow down before I start my day.

#1. DO NOT LOOK AT YOUR PHONE

I cannot stress this enough, rolling over in bed when you wake up first thing is probably the worst you can do for yourself. When you roll over to see your notifications, you instantly hit yourself with the stress of the day ahead and the things on your to-do list. Your brain is already working when it’s waking up. Now you’re going to feel anxious and begin to rush your day.
Instead, I urge you to put your phone across the room, or even in your office away from reach. This will allow you to wake up and start your day thinking about your cup of joe first!

#2. DRINK AN ENTIRE GLASS OF WATER (Add some lemon juice if you wish)

I kid you not, this is such a game-changer for me. Before I do anything I drink a glass or two of freshwater, not cold but room temperature. You don’t want to shock your system but wake your body up. This is so powerful, your health comes first before work and it’s important to stay hydrated. Staying hydrated means your brain functions better, you won’t snack unnecessarily and you won’t feel lethargic. This all equals a great workday 🙂 I promise.

#3. JOURNAL, MEDITATE, READ A BOOK, GRATITUDE

This is your time to take 10, 20 or 30 minutes whatever you want to write about your dreams, goals, what you’re grateful for or just sit still in meditation for 10-15 min. I know this sounds really hard, but it helps to organize your mind and create a purpose for the day. We all want to manifest the amazingness coming into our lives, we need to share how grateful we are for the little things and people we have. Even reading a business book can be so beneficial and fire you up for the day. This allows us to go into our workday with a clear vision and a passion, rather than rushing into things and then feeling like we can’t catch our breath.

I wrote a post on my fav business books, check it out here.

#4. EAT BREAKFAST (have some coffee)

There is nothing worse than starting your day working, working, working and OOPS! Lunch has come and all you’ve had is coffee. I love my coffee but not nourishing your body with something hinders your work. It creates headaches, unnecessary snacking later in the day and you don’t drink enough water when you don’t eat. So by the end of the day, you’re overworked, tired and hangry!! Ya feel me? haha
A few of my favourite easy breakfast ideas that won’t make you feel like you have to go back to bed are; avo on toast, oatmeal with frozen blueberries and peanut butter or a tofu scramble on toast! These are easy, take no time to make you feel ready to take on the day!

#5. TO-DO LISTS

Last but not least, you still have not looked at your phone by the way. This is when you sit down and look at what you have to do today. Time block in the gym, breaks and lunch (you’ll thank me later). Don’t handle 20 tasks today, handle 2, and break them down into mini bite-size pieces. You will be less overwhelmed and it will feel SO good to cross those to-dos off your list. We’re all so busy and always have countless amounts of things to do, but if you tackle them and follow this morning routine to not feel like you’re drowning. You will be more productive and get a lot done!

Happy working!
